Managing an employee Intranet

Due to privacy concerns, I am unable to show samples of my work; however, I have provided an overview of my experience.

  • As a Communications Advisor at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), I manage the department’s Intranet - also known as Connexion.

    My role involves:

    • content management: regularly updating web content and posting announcements to keep employees informed

    • user experience (UX) improvements: optimizing site navigation and layout to enhance accessibility and engagement

    • cross-functional collaboration: working closely with coders, subject matter experts, and colleagues to ensure information is accurate and effectively communicated

    • performance monitoring: using analytics to assess engagement and make data-driven improvements

  • While creating and optimizing web content, I ensure to use:

    • plain language: using simple words and sentence structure, avoiding jargon, and writing in active voice

    • intuitive web structure and navigation: to ensure information is easy to find and understand

    • calls to action: for example, “Fill out this form”, “Submit a request”, to encourage users to engage with a service

    • descriptive headers: to organize and structure information

    • alternative text for images: to adhere to accessibility requirements

  • Here are some things I have achieved while managing Connexion:

    • developed a task-based, user-friendly web page for a key departmental initiative, resulting in one of the top 5 most-visited pages on the intranet within the first week of launch

    • optimized existing web pages, reducing bounce rates to an average of 15%

    • reduced clutter and streamlined navigation by eliminating all outdated content (more than 17,000 web pages)

  • While developing and optimizing web content, I used the following tools:

    • Wireframes: to plan web structure

    • Asana: to track project progress

    • Google analytics: to review content performance and refine content as needed

Creating web content for Canada.ca

While working as a Consultant at Employment and Social Development Canada, I was responsible for managing Federal Labour Standards web content on Canada.ca.

Here are some samples of my work.
